Just because we are on lockdown doesn’t mean you have to give up on your skin. With more time on our hands, it is beneficial to dedicate some time to self-care and pampering your skin can be a much needed relaxing experience. I want to introduce you to my 5 best skincare products and tell you step-by-step how to use them for self-care during the lockdown. Try my recommended products and judge for yourself.

These skin treatments can be easily performed by you at home without any help. They will certainly help you maintain the results you’ve achieved in the clinic so far. You may want to prepare your skin with medical ingredients for intensive clinic treatment after the lockdown is over. Or you can use them simply as stand-alone treatments to care and nurture your skin during this stressful time.

I must emphasise that these treatments are medical-grade treatments, and as such, they do affect your skin. They improve the health of your skin and consequently increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Although I would recommend you to use a sunscreen all year round, sunscreen is especially important for at least one week following these nourishing treatments. This is because UV radiation from the sun can cause a lot of invisible damage to your skin which will manifest later in life.

Peel2Glow

is my 1st best skincare product for self-care during the lockdown

AlumierMD Enzymatic Peel

is my 2nd best skincare product for self-care during the lockdown

This is a highly effective exfoliating self-care best done in the evening. Harnessing the power of fruit enzymes and alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), the peel gently removes dead skin cells while promoting skin renewal. As a result, lines and wrinkles are minimised and pigmentation improves. Additional ingredients protect and hydrate the skin leaving it soft and supple from first use.

During the lockdown, why not pamper yourself once or twice a week to elevate your skincare. It is normal for your skin to turn pink or red temporarily immediately following this treatment but this will soon subside. You are unlikely to experience any visible peeling with this home treatment as invisible peeling occurs. The AlumierMD Enzymatic Peel takes 2nd place in my 5 best skincare products for self-care during the lockdown as it is a gentle yet effective treatment.

Key ingredients:

The fruit enzymes Papain found in papaya and Bromelain found in pineapple exfoliates skin feeding on dead skin cells.

10% Lactic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that loosens the bonds between dead skin cells on the surface encouraging them to dislodge from the skin.

Gluconolactone is a polyhydroxy acid (PHA) which exfoliates more gently than AHA while protecting the skin due to its antioxidant properties.

Sodium hyaluronate is a form of hyaluronic acid which moisturises the skin by drawing water out from within the skin and maintaining hydration.

Vitamin B5 is also highly moisturising to the skin.

Glutathione is an antioxidant that protects the skin.

Aloe vera extracts help to calm the skin.

How to Use AlumierMD Enzymatic Peel as self-care during the lockdown

  1. Cleanse your skin, wash with lukewarm water and pat dry.
  2. Apply a thin even layer of the enzymatic peel to the face, neck, and décolletage with a brush or fingers avoiding the eye area.
  3. Leave on for 3-5 minutes
  4. Rinse off the peel with lukewarm water and pat dry.
  5. Apply a moisturiser or your regular nighttime routine.

This gentle home peel is suitable not only for the face but body parts too. Being gentle and suitable for all skin types, it can be used on your hands, upper arms or back for extra indulgence. While staying at home during the lockdown, why not treat your partner as well for an evening of self-care and relaxation?

The ZO® Skin Health Enzymatic Peel takes 3rd place in my 5 best skincare recommendation as its effect can be amplified by leaving the treatment as an overnight mask. Obagi® Professional-C™ Microdermabrasion Polish and Mask

is my 5th best skincare product for self-care during the lockdown

This is a brand new product recently launched in the UK by Obagi® Medical. It is a unique product combining mechanical exfoliation by microdermabrasion with high strength Vitamin C. I recommend using it in the morning 2-3 times a week. Vitamin C helps to restore youthful-looking skin by making skin firmer, brighter, smoother and softer. With the highest strength of Vitamin C, this is an intensive treatment and not suitable for all skin types so clinical guidance is recommended. It is intended as a clinic treatment as well so it’s my most intense home self-care skincare for the lockdown at number 5. This will definitely leave your skin glowing immediately after treatment!

30% L-Ascorbic Acid

Silica-Alumina is ultra-fine crystals that gently remove surface dead skin and prepare the skin for infusion of Vitamin C.

Botanical Oils to minimise dryness and maximise glow.

I hope that I have given you enough skincare options to consider for self-care while we are on lockdown. These 5 best skincare products can be used as adjuncts to your skincare or as your entry-level medical skincare so that you experience the potency of these ingredients without committing to a full skincare range. Although they are medical skincare, I have carefully selected products that will not irritate your skin or cause any concerns. However, if you do develop any sensitivity, please get in contact with me as we may need to start you on basic skincare to repair and replenish your skin before embarking on treatment products. All the products listed are available at Skin Enhance And Wellness for postal delivery while we are on lockdown.
